The Same Rights For All?
(Reprinted: Letter to the Dallas Morning News)
Why are people so upset that a senior at Highland Park High School wore gold chains and a fake gold tooth one day, when seniors in other school districts wear them every day? Why would the NAACP automatically think it was about black people? Do they think only our people are thugs?
James Ragland wrote in his Metro column about the racial makeup of Highland Park's student body. What on earth does that have to do with it? I lived in HP when I was 7 years old. People pay a premium to own property there, for whatever reason.
How can minorities continue to cry foul when people exercise the same rights we fought for?
Could we please go one week without using the R-word and just try to see if we can get along, as people, doing people things?

Tact?
I think next year, it would be better for the children of the affluent to wear black face and tell jokes and dance. Or make it Nazi day, part of the school can dress in Goth style and sport swastikas. I saw it on the front of a Highland Park school, as graffiti, done wrong. It saddend me that the level of education in the HPISD is so low that the kids not get graffiti for social protest right. They draw dyslexic swastikas.
If you could go back in time, this whole NAACP problem could be solved, if you don't want a person of darker color around, don't buy one. If you do not a person of lighter color around, stop hiring them to "Do the work other folks won't do."
I fully back you. America should also have drunk indian day.
Free speech, even if it is offensive, should be supported.
It was about black folks because, the hip hop culture tends to have a greater tendency to invest in gold teeth than children of other races. I tend to have a belief that folks in HP at a premium to live around other like thinking people. It buffers them from the rest of world. It affords many benefits, first and foremost, there are very few poor people around. I am thinking that the city should close down a Botique and put a methodone clinic in that neighborhood, they seem against it. They seem to prefer drug addicts and the insane to beg from poor people in poor neighborhoods.
But what gets my goat is that they call it the problem of the poor, all the while, the rich are battling the same problems of drug addiction, alcoholism, and ignorance.
If it is okay to have a gold tooth and gangster image at the high school, let the folks of darker skin hang out the corners in HP and not be hasseled as well. I will bet you dollars to donuts, if I take real thugs into that neck of the woods, they would be tossed out in short order.
If HP has such great teachers they can to better with "Thugs" let them take on the children that are the "Thugs" every day.
