Records Show DISD President Parrott Lied to Dallas Morning News
When the Dallas Morning News editorial board asked DISD school board incumbent Lois Parrott if she had ever been involved in any civil lawsuits, she told them "NO" (view the questions here).
The problem is, she lied.
According to Dallas County records (view here), Parrott has been involved in several lawsuits where she has either sued DISD and it's taxpayers, or was sued and defended at taxpayer's expense.
One of her lawsuits, against Edison Schools in 2002, was deemed "frivolous" and dismissed. The District's legal bills cost hundreds-of-thousands of dollars. Parrott was ordered to pay $3,000 over a 3 year period (2002 to 2005) as well as perform community service (tutoring).
Parrott paid nothing until a January, 2006, request was made under the Texas Public Information Act. Shortly after that, her attorney paid Parrott's $3,000 bill.
A lawsuit was filed against Parrott and another trustee by former DISD Superintendent Waldemar Rojas for libel. According to sources, the District settled with Rojas for well over $100,000. Dallas.Org is working on, but has been unable to ascertain, legal expenses billed to the district in this case.
Dallas Independent School District records do not show that Parrott ever performed the community service.
The Dallas Morning News has endorsed challenger Lee Ann Ellis for the District 3 board seat.
