Perry Homes And One Couple's Legal Nightmare
Houston-based Perry Homes is building what they've penned to be "upscale" home communities throughout the metroplex.
But could your new dream home be your next nightmare?
The Dallas Morning News reports on an elderly retirement couple who have been in a legal dispute with Perry Homes for almost 10 years. The issue: a faulty foundation.
The odd piece is that, after losing all rounds in arbitration, along with losing trials and appeals, Perry has won an unlikely hearing in front of the Texas Supreme Court.
Could this be because of the merits of the case? Or could it be because Bob Perry, billed "the most generous political donor in the state," has contributed to the campaign of every Texas Supreme Court justice--to the tune of $340,217?
A quick check of Dallas County's civil court database turned up several pages of lawsuits against the company including a tax lawsuit by the City of Irving.
Bob Perry's contributions, along with contributions made by his wife Doylene Perry, can be viewed on The Texas Ethics Commission Search Page by filling in the Contributor line and pressing Search.
Even though Perry is a huge contributor to political campaigns, is he really a bad guy? "Not at all," says one high-profile Democrat politician who asked that he not be identified. "He's very low-key and honest."
Indeed, "low key" might not be that far off. With all his wealth, one might expect Perry to live in multi-million dollar mansion in a trendy, upscale Houston suburb. Rather, according to land records, Perry lives in a modest $662,000 house a little South of NASA.
"He gives most of it away," remarked one source. "He's active with charitable organizations and has this sense of duty to others."
Put it all together, and it tends to draw a stark contrast to the politically-painted "wheeler-dealer" who masterminded and funded the Swift Boat attack on John Kerry in 2004.
But back in Mansfield, the big questions remain. Why didn't Perry just fix the Cull's home?
There's likely more to this story and we'll try to find out from Perry himself!
