It's all about the spending. Over 150 employees attended a reading conference in Toronto.

While (and we can't stress this enough) most were frugal--staying 3 or 4 to a room, there were several educators (and school administrators) who stood out.

Some arrived early to take a tour of Niagara Falls. Some took in a belly dance at a local club. Some waited until the last minute to attend the conference resulting in hundreds of dollars of additional cost--all of it at taxpayers' expense.

All in all, the DISD sent more teachers to the conference than the entire state of New York.

Some have argued that the teachers "deserved" to be wined-and-dined while others have expressed shock and outrage.
