Allen Gwinn 2007-09-27 07:33 DISD (Schools)
It's 5:30, September 27, 2007 and the Board meeting is in session--so hit the "refresh" button regularly. 5:40 - Education briefing - Ron Price Reported on a variety of things from discussions of bilingual education to day care centers. Price stressed the importance and his support for day care--and noted that his wife owns two day care centers! 5:42 - Business briefing - Edwin Flores Flores talked about facilities - building and dedicating at the speed of light. 5:43 - Policy briefing - Leigh Ann Ellis ...it's moving along quickly. Agenda item to approve a settlement agreement regarding Eric Louis Brown. It passed 8-1. We'll have more on this later. 5:46 - Consent agenda passed unanimously Now we're on to the individual board member reports. Things are moving along quicker than I can type! Jerome Garza talked about dedicating a new school in his district. 6:03 - Uh oh. Lew Blackburn is getting ready to talk about delayering, reorganization and the "road to broad." "Last month I asked for information about reorganization," Blackburn said. "Reorganization at headquarters was no small task... and if we did it right we might want to [share information with other districts]." Blackburn hinted that Hinojosa and others were not being as forthcoming as he would have liked. Blackburn also asked for employement data - who was hired, fired, ethnicities, salaries, etc. His wish is our command! Blackburn also indicated he would like the district policy prohibiting vendors from buying lunches to be re-examined. Under state law, it is perfectly legal for vendors to spring for meals, entertainment and transportation of public officials. Perhaps a good compromise would be allow it but require disclosure. 6:14 - Speakers to non-agenda items 6:24 - It's a wrap! |
