Live Blog: Macworld 2008

Steve Jobs is currently giving the keynote address at Macworld 2008 in San Francisco.

First thing he announced was a new wirelss backup device to make copies of your data. Very cool.

Then its on to the iPhone and a bunch of new applications available now.

Online content

Then a biggie. Movie rentals on iTunes. Starting at 2.99 for older releases and 3.99 for new releases. You can rent a movie and have 24 hours to watch it as many times as you can.

iTunes movie rentals are available with a free upgrade you download from www.apple.com

Jobs now announced AppleTV take 2. No computer required. Just plug in to your TV and rent movies in HD right from your TV. AppleTV comes with a remote that allows you to browse and manage your content.

Jobs apparently loved Blades of Glory. Very funny movie.

They slashed the price for AppleTV to 229.00. Apparently the stock market isn't as optimistic right now. The stock is down 8.88 a share.

Then Jobs introduced the chairman of Fox who announced they were turning out content for Apple.

Next announcement coming up.

Notebooks

Introducing the Macbook Air. "Its the world's thinnest notebook.

.76 inches down to .16 inches. Thin enough to fit in an inter-office envelope.

13.3" display. LED backlit. Instant on and a full-size keyboard. Whole bunch of features taken from the iPhone. But how much memory? Disk?

Standard with a 80G 1.8" iPod-style hard drive. Intel Core2duo. Intel custom engineered the chip.

Now Intel's CEO Paul Otellini is taking the stage. Showed the chip.

Lots of wireless features but no DVD drive. "We don't think people will miss the optical drive."

But there is a 99.00 external drive you can buy.

5 hour battery life! 2GB RAM. Price: 1799.00. Ships in 2 weeks.

Closing it up by having Randy Neumann, songwriter and composer. Started by saying that Americans are hated overseas so he wrote a song to defend us.

Started out by saying our leadership was the "worst we've seen but not the worst the world hs seen." Then went into a fairly funny song.

Ooh... gratuitous political bashing. Wonder if any politicos will be buying Macbook Airs? We'll see what the stock market says in a bit.

"I always root againt corporations...but not against this one!"

We need the transcript of this. It is funny.

Ok... on my way over to the convention center at 10:42 (12:42 Dallas time).
