Numbers To Come Shortly!

DISD expects to double the number of schools that fall into the State's TAKS "exemplary" and "recognized" categories. At the same time, the number deemed "unacceptable" is expected to fall.

The "Broad Death March"??
Hey, what is really telling is the number of administrators that are leaving recognized and exemplary schools. Here are just a few we've heard about in the last couple of days:
Walnut Hill (new principal as of November)--exemplary
Tom Field (principal with over 10 years experience)--recognized
Kleberg (from low performing year before last--recognized
Conrad High School(opened brand new high school last year)
Seagoville High School (was elementary principal last year of an exemplary school)
Several are ACTIVELY seeking other districts and are waiting to drop their bombs over the summer.
Not to mention Steve Flores--he's a new superintendent in South Texas....what gives? Sounds like the Road to Broad may be more like the Bataan Death March--YIKES!
[Ed Note: We certainly wouldn't want to get any nicknames started here. That would be completely out of character with this website.]
Spruce Problems
Could teachers give some insight as to why this school is such a problem? How many principals has this school had over the past 5 years?
What were the issues regarding the school culture? How many times did Hinojosa visit the school and make suggestions?
Conrad's Old Principal
She is "retiring." After two years on low-performing, she better. She came from a rich, white suburb of Austin, and she never quite "got it" when it came to Conrad's unique student population.
Of course, we hear she might be resurrected as a "consultant" for DISD, so in effect, old principals never die, they just come back for more money in another way.
[Ed Note: Maybe they'll give her one of the "new improved" P-Cards!]
"New Improved" P-Cards
What do you mean? Are they coming back?
[Ed Note: You mean you doubt my sources :) ]
Defending Conrad Principal
I can't really defend the now retiring principal at Conrad other than to say she was always a true professional when I interacted with her. I have to wonder if she was supported when she got to Conrad? DISD hired her knowing where she came from. Did they do anything to prepare her for the diverse population at Conrad? I doubt it, as DISD wasn't even prepared for changes in that neighborhood. She opened that new building and did a flawless job (with much help from her former office manager). Any of the problems with the construction of the building can be placed on the back of DISD as only they signed off on the quality of the construction without taking into consideration the massive list of problems the principal wanted addressed.
My point, to wrap this rambling up, it that I don't think we can place all the blame for Conrad's woes on the shoulders of Ms. Perry. DISD is not know for supporting it's employees.
Happy Retirement!
Re Conrad Principal
Conrad's principal refused to take advise from anyone and when the security officer stood up to her about the crap she was pulling she had her moved!
Plus from what I hear...the staff had already done a survey telling her exactly what they thought of her.
Wonder if DISD knew that her husband, who was a "volunteer" was doing administrator duties and the ordering her Associate Principal to sign off on what he did
