How about any positive events in DISD?

I am just tired of reading the negative as I really feel pushed down in this mess along with others reading this site.
I would like to say Bryan Adams teaching got a treat this year starting with a top notch speaker, Dana Bowman coming in and motivating the teachers and I hope he can come back and speak a round or two for some of the students. Other than that, not much to speak of in my area, but would love to hear from others mainly from students on what has taken place so far this early school year.

I'm not a student but let's see
I live very near Bryan Adams, have had two graduate from there, one '98, one '07 :)
I currently have two at Skyline, one will be '10, other '11
:)
I also have one at Travis, '17, now that just makes me feel old (lol) :)
Starting from home, BA seems to have settled down a bit this year. It is pleasant again, no fast wheeling golf carts and guys on walkie-talkies chasing. That's great. I see the band hard at practice often times and for sure the football team is working out hard every day. There are people enjoying the track which was a very nice and beneficial addition for BA. VERY NICE!
Skyline is showing good signs of digging in, keeping things safe and cleaner too. I know that my kids feel safe and happy there. They seem to have really buckled down with it this year :), they seem motivated and determined. I attribute this to a great Principal, great Teachers and all the really REALLY GREAT STAFF that provide lunch, fix things, make the world go-round there. This is a really good wooking system.
At Travis there is more PTA stuff than I have ever seen anywhere. This school knows how to get things done and there are some really motivated people working there and volunteering every day, and even nights. This school should be, to me, a model of how a school can communicate to parents, students, and each other. WOW, I get e-mails, constant updated Newsletters, papers daily on activity and events and best of all my daughter loves it. She is still getting up at 5:30 am to catch the bus ALL BY HERSELF!
So, in closing, I have said a prayer for all the people, all of us, which will be effected by the financial crisis and economic hardships to come from DISD's situation. Today, I'm fasting, making it a day of prayer and hope and faith, that in the end God knows already what this outcome is to be and we must trust good will prevail.
Positive--YES
Positives are:
My students--awesome, talented, creative, hungry to learn
My co-workers---determined to do their best NO matter what changes come about
I actually learned pretty good stuff from the POL-accountability, accountable talk---goal setting--ok maybe I didnt LEARN that--but a review and refocus is always nice.
As a DISD product--I still believe in this district. I see the quality work taking place here daily. The students, faculty, staff and local school administration make a pretty good team. I am still waving the DISD flag. I believe in it. Always have. Always will.
Excellent Points
Very good points here. Even with the mess ups, there are some very cool things that happen in DISD. Heck, even the guys who are messing up now have actually done good things in their careers!
We don't need to forget this.
Nor do we need to let the bad things slide!
Still Working Hard
I would just like to pass along some kuddos to all the employees of the District who are still going about their jobs, working hard, and doing the best they can even in these circumstances. Bravo!
Also, I would like to encourage everyone to pray for the District and for the people who are making the decisions that will ultimately affect us all because only a miracle will pull us out of this one!
